Summer Work Blog #3 (LAST ONE!)

After completing blog #2, you have reflected upon your own political ideals.  Now, it’s time to do a little political science.

Go the The Political Compass web site.

Read the homepage, then click the link on the top left corner of the screen, “Take the Test”.

After completing the test, include the following TWO items in your post:

  1. The results of the test.
  2. Your thoughts on the validity of the test.

In other words, tell me how the test categorizes you politically, and then tell me if you think it’s accurate.

Remember, this is the last of three blog responses required for the summer work obligations.  All summer work, including the blogs, is due on August 22nd (papers should be turned in at the high school main office).  Late work will NOT be collected (zero points if not turned in by 8.22).

    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.69

So I’m libertarian left, I just about Gandhi. Sweet

I think that this test was pretty good. It hit on some of the big topics and the smaller ones to really get a sense of what everyone is woo

I’m authoritarian right, kind of close to Gordon Brown, whoever he is.

This seems pretty valid. The questions on the test were a lot more about fundamental political ideals than I thought they would be. I thought that it would focus more on individual issues being discussed today.

  3. Brent Barge Says:

    Economic Left/Right: -3.62
    Social Libertarian/Authortarian: -0.92

So I guess that means that I think that the state should be a little more important in the economy than the person, but I’m not really sure I agree with that. So I guess I’m not quite sure that the test is completely accurate. Overall pretty good, though.

  4. Andrew Deckert Says:

    Economic Left/Right: 1.88
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.74

    Like a Kevin Rudd

I thought I would have been more Economic Right and Collectivism Left. I thought this test was well-made though and I might not necessarily agree with the results, and like what Rachel said, I thought it would be a modern test with questions pertaining to current politics.

  5. Kaitlin Says:

    Economic Left/Right: -1.75
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.90

So i guess that means I’m libertarian left, but not very far into either category. I thought that I would in the left, as I was, but I also thought I’d be into the Authoritarian side rather than the Libertarian, but hey I’m in the same quadrant as Gandhi, the Dalai Lama, and Nelson Mandela so I’m not complaining! The only problem I thought the test had was that there was no ‘neutral’ option. I either had to agree of disagree even if I didn’t really understand or have an opinion. Also, some questions like “The most important thing for children to learn is to accept discipline,” threw me for a loop, because even though I thought it is an important thing for children to learn I had to disagree because i don’t think its the MOST important thing, which may have pushed me farther into the Libertarian side. Anyway, on the whole I thought it was a really good test that will be accurate more times than not.

  6. Cody Lee Wade Says:

    Economic Left/Right: -2.00
    Social Libertarian/ Authoritarian: -4.82

Okay this means that im libertarian left. The way its alligned makes me think that my social views are more libertarian but my economic views are more towards the right. I’d say its pretty accurate although i’ll admit i do not know all too much about the free market economy so my opinions werent really that strong..more confused. Im closest to Ghandi or The Dalai Lama. I think id like a neutral option too there kaitlin. It varied well with social issues and it was a good test.

  7. Michael James Mellon teh III Says:

    Economic Left/Right: 5.75
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 4.72
I thought that the test was valid overall. There were some quetions that I wanted to qualify before I answering them but had to answer them in the way I knew the makers wanted them to be answered.

  8. The Zart Says:

    Economic Left/Right: 6.38
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.18

This test put me near Neo-liberalism a.k.a Libertarianism. I would strongly agree with this assessment, but I think that the test could have been much more thorough and delved even deeper into certain areas. However, on the whole a great test and in conclusion Ayn Rand.

  9. Chris Says:

    Economic Left/Right: 6.62
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 3.18

Yup, so the test was pretty cool. Had a broad range of questions covering many topics. I believe that my test results were correct, and it turns out I’m close to Gordon Brown? Whoever this brownie may be…

“Some people are naturally unlucky” <—- I lawled on that one. what a stupid question.

  10. Brittney Chaplin Says:

    Economic Left/Right: -4.12
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.59

So i’m libertarian left. The test was alright. Like Kaitlin, I thought there should have been a neutral option. I also did not understand some of the questions, which may have skewd my results. I was pretty sure that I was left but I didn’t think I was that far left. It was a fairly good test though.

im the closest to pope benedict of the second chart and between ghandi and stallin on the second which i honestly have no idea where that puts me. I guess im a communist, which is sad.

But the test was different. Some questions i didn’t think had anything to do with government, like is abstract art real art? how does that make me a communist? And the lack of a neutral option makes it tough. Cause i don’t know about religion in my public school and whether or not it is important to me. So overall, it could have been better.

  12. Christine Baumgartner Says:

    Economic Left/Right: 1.75
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.51

I’m kind of in the center. I don’t know…is that good or bad? Where was the neutral option? I liked the test it was all right, it seems like it showed the right results, that is, they seem to match up with my opinions, i think. It kind of directed you which answers to pick which I didn’t like so much, but other than that it was fine.

  13. Shannon Kelley Says:

    Economic Left/Right: -3.00
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.54

This test was based on huge generalizations, but I suppose that that’s the only way a generic test can “gage” someone politically. Although I would have been comfortable answering ‘Neutral’ to some of the questions, I thought it was good that the test did not offer such options. It forced the test taker to make a decision on the issue. Too many neutral responses might skew the results as ‘Neutral’s might have contributed 0 points in either direction, making the other non-’Neutral’ answers weighted more in the final coordinate.

I thought that this test was fairly accurate. And I won’t complain; I’m kind of near Gandhi. =)

  14. THE Milan Koneff Says:

    Economic Left/Right: -4.62
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.13

I’m apparently libitarian left. And the closest dot to mine on that scale was Ghandi’s. Which is pretty sweet but I dont really feel that close to Ghandi.. oh well.

The test was cool. I’m glad it wasnt in major details because that made it very easy and accessable to just about anyone. It covered a lot of areas and was neato.

    All Hail Ghandi!

  15. Catherine S. Says:

    My results were:

    Economic left/right: -1.12
    Social libertarian/authoritarian: -2.10

I thought that this test was actually pretty good because it had some good questions though some were really weird (naturally unlucky?). I’m in the same quadrant as Gandhi which I think is pretty cool so I would say that Im perfectly content with my results. However there were some questions that I thought couldve used a “not sure” or “neutral” button. The questions nonetheless were perceptive questions that contributed well to the overall result.

  16. Dylan S. Says:

    Economic Left/Right: -2.62
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.31

Im libertarian left. This test was very interesting and enjoyed taking it. Taking this test can show a lot about a person and even bring out some things a person may not know about themselves. However it said im near Ghandi and i dont feel as close to him so maybe they should have more dots.

  17. Zandy Says:

    Your political compass
    Economic Left/Right: -1.25
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.33

This puts me libertarian left, near Ghandi. I also agree, however, that there should have been a nuetral option. I think this test was pretty valid. The questions werent too vague and they covered alot of important points.

  18. Brice Morey Says:

    Economic Left/Right: -0.88
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.79

All in all, I thought it was a pretty good test. There was no “Neutral” option, which I found interesting, but I guess it makes sense to get more accurate results. I still don’t quite understand what my results mean. So I am on the same side as Gandhi.
I like how everyone’s test is really different and unique.

  19. Matt Couch Says:

    Your political compass

    Economic Left/Right: -0.12
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.74

Well according to this coordinate plane, I am on the authoritarian left side. When compared to the closest dot to my score I am almost represented by Romano Prodi although he is on the opposite side of my score, but is still the closest. I guess according to the test it has me on the facist side of things but it is still very moderate. But overall the test I thought was pretty good. Like many other kids said, it had a good wide range of questions covering sex, all the way to people being unlucky. Although I read the directions and everything I still find it hard in some ways to totally understand my scoring, but overall I though it was a very good test and a useful tool.

  20. BRANDON ISHAM Says:

    Economic Left/Right: -2.38
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.69

I’m not completely sure what this is telling me but I thought the test had a lot of good questions and covered a lot of topics.

Now all I know is that I’m basically the same as The Dalai Lame. I think I can dig that.

  21. Jacob Hartwig Says:

    Economic Left/Right: 1.75
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.85

Eh? Why am I so far libertarian. That does not make sense to me, so of course I will question the validity of this test. I thought the questions were good and all, but this outcome is not making of the sense. You know? Because I am definitely NOT liberal.

  22. Alexa Williams Says:

    Economic Left/Right: 2.00
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.83

Apparently I am an anarchist. My dot is nowhere close to any famous leader and and I don’t really know what that means or if it is a good thing. The test seemed to accurately portray my views and it asked a lot of questions on small topics on which I had never really thought about where I stood.

  23. Brian Schneider Says:

    Economic Left/Right: -2.38
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.62

    Authoritarian Left??

I don’t feel the test is accurate. In Blog #2 a lot of us had the same views, but this test shows a wide variety of scores which means the test is bogus or that we all lied in our Blog #2 entries? I guess without a “neutral” option the test is more accurate but can we really find out our political views by some electronic test? I don’t think so!

  24. Jacob Hartwig Says:

    Economic Left/Right: 6.25
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 2.26

    Fix’d

  25. Ivana Idzakovic Says:

    Economic Left/Right: -3.12
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.13

So I guess I’m libertarian left.. which I think is pretty cool because Gandhi was the closest to me.. and he was a pretty decent guy :) Although I don’t know if I liked the test because it didn’t have the “neutral” or a “not sure” option.. I just didn’t like having to choose an answer that I wasn’t totally set on or maybe didn’t know a lot about.. Otherwise, the questions were pretty easy to understand and kind of made you think about things you wouldn’t think about on a daily basis.
